Percy Jas Trezise
Attended Bethanga Primary School
7th February 1928 - 9th February 1934

Author, painter, pilot and rock art historian, Percy Trezise has been instrumental in allowing precious aboriginal images to be seen by  contemporary eyes.  During the 1960's, Percy's job as an airline  pilot in the remote outback allowed him to fly regularly over the sites of the Quinkin rock art.  He learned to recognise areas that were likely to contain aboriginal rock art, marked them on air navigation charts and later explored them on foot.  Percy is believed to be the first non-aboriginal Australian to have set eyes on these ancient images.
Percy's art is well renowned and is reflective of his affinity and deep respect for the region and its traditional owners.
Percy is best known as the co-author of such children's books as “The Rainbow Serpent” and “The Quinkins”.  His books are in every    Australian school and one of his triptychs hangs in Parliament House in Canberra.
His historical book on Quinkin rock art entitled “Dream Road” was declared one of the ten most notable books of 1998.
